What if?

This is my first attempt at the Spin Cycle.  Be kind.

The first what if that jumps to mind (maybe because of el presidentes speech last night) is what if Al Gore had won in 2000?

Kinda boggles the mind, don't it?  I didn't vote for W.  I didn't like him when he was governor.  Which, in case you didn't know, is not all it's cracked up to be in Texas.  The office of the governor is NOT the seat of power in Texas that it is in other states.  Here, the Lt. Governor has the real power.  So, W had even less experience than you previously thought.

One thing is for sure.  With Gore, we would have had a sane environmental policy.  We would have signed the Kyoto accords, agreed to the UN Climate Change goals in Bali.  The EPA wouldn't have become the whipping post and yes-man to industry that BushCo turned it into.

We might be driving electric cars in enough numbers to make an actual difference.

Gore would have most likely maintained the Clinton economic plans.  So, no S1.4 TRILLION debt.

9/11 would most likely still happened and we most likely would have gone to war in Afghanistan.  That's okay.  Because Gore would'nt have decided to finish George Sr's unfinished business in Iraq.  We would've done it right.  Stayed to finish the job.  I like to think that we would've helped rebuild the Afghani infrastructure, built schools, helped them join the world economy with something besides opium.

So, but for the wandering eye of  Bill Clinton, our world might be very different today.  The puritanical madness that overcame Washington and the rest of the country and resulted in Clinton's impeachment did nothing but further divide us. And from those divisions rose one man.

George W. Bush.

Thanks, Bill.

I always wondered what would have happened had Gore won the seat instead. Good post! You're linked!

I still can't equate an extramarital affair on the same moral failing ranking as starting a war under false pretenses that got and is getting thousands of Americans and many more thousands of innocent Iraqis killed. Come on people, let's get our morals in perspecitve!

Thanks for letting me rant.

If Gore had gotten in (and he did, the Supreme Court and shenanigans in Florida stole it) we probably wouldn't have President Obama right now.

It has however destroyed forever the ridiculous assertion that 'both parties are the same'
